Dr. Satya Narain Prasad, Former Vice-Chancellor,  J P University, Chapra

Professor (Dr.) S.N. Prasad after completing the post-graduate degree in Physics from Patna University joined in Institute of Pharmacy, Govt. of Bihar in research section and did commendable work on different instruments such as spectrophotometer, colorimeter etc. for drug analysis. His work was very praise worthy. He worked in Bhagalpur college of Engineering (under dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of Bihar) in Physics faculty as Assistant Professor from 1962, Associate Professor from 1970, and then Professor of Physics from 1985. He has served there as also head of dept. of Physics for 23 years. Here he has established research laboratory for solid state Physics and thin film laboratory along with conventional laboratory for Engineering degree course. Dr. Prasad takes interest in constructive and creative works. He took keen interest in establishment of the aforesaid institutes from ground stage. He was appointed a member of Task Force to prepare the plan, eighth plan for the development of Engineering College of Bihar state such as modernisation plan, curriculum development etc. on the advice of All India Council of Technical Education. He was the member of all academic activities in Engineering faculty and he was N.C.C. officer in signal coy from 1964 to 1986 so he got full opportunity to mix up with students.

Late Dr. Satya Naraian Prasad

Govt. of Bihar offered him the membership of Bihar State University (Constituent College) Service Commission and he served there till March 94. During his tenure of 4 years, three Bihar eligibility test (BET) for lecturer appointment were conducted and about 1400 lecturers in different subjects in all the universities of Bihar, nearly 70 Principals of the college were appointed and about 13,000 teachers of different universities of Bihar state were promoted to different ranks. These aforesaid figures is itself a record.

Dr. Prasad was appointed Vice-chancellor of newly established Jai Prakash University in Chapra in June 1998. This university was bifurcated from B.R.A. Bihar University, Muzaffarpur in October 1992. In his 3 years stay till June2001,  240 acres of land was acquired for construction of university building. All the related works of the university was either started or gained momentum in his period. His another creation is teaching of B.C.A. in distance education mode – this course got high appreciation from all section of the people of this state.

Dr. Prasad has had a very long and distinguished carrier and is an outstanding teacher with vast experience and is researcher of high repute. He was good administrator.

But on  the 15 th October 2001 morning Dr. Prasad left for his hevenly abode, far from this madding crowd, near to GOD . And we have just his memories to share and ideology to follow. Let us Now to keep lighted the torch of revolution of distance education.

LAST ASSIGNMENT

He rang me in the end of september and said that his present assignment at RAJBHAVAN was going to be over on 15 . 10 . 2001 and he wished to do a final assignment of his life on that day and asked for my assistance in fulfilling his dreames. His dream was to creat "TECHFORUM' a plateform for people related with Distance Education , Information Technology and Technocrates for harbouring the techno culture and IT revolution in general in INDIA and in particular in BIHAR. But in the morning of 15 October 2001it came to me ast bolt from the blue when I came to know that Dr. Prasad left us behind far from us on his last assignment of his life leaving us to fulfil his last dream, his final assignment of creation of "TECHFORUM" . with tearful of eyes I pray for the peace of  his soul and pladge to follow the path shown by him and do my utmost to make his last dream of  "TECHFORUM" true as his last assignment in which he aought my assistance.
